Mission
Mission
STAR's mission is to enrich student life for RSM students.
Philosophy
Studying is more than just hitting the books
At STAR we believe that you learn at RSM not only by going to class and taking exams. You also "learn by doing", and that is what we facilitate. We offer opportunities for students to develop themselves in the way and intensity that they prefer. Students can choose to attend an event or workshop or become active on one of our committees to gain practical skills that supplement theoretical knowledge gained at R
Work hard, play harder.
Indeed, we are ambitious and look for ambitious people, but we also like having fun. Learning new skills, working on a project, or being part of the Board goes hand in hand with having fun. That is why we organise many social events and throw the biggest student party of the Benelux.
Your career starts before graduation.
You do not need a Master’s degree to begin developing work experience. Through workshops, recruitment events, and good relationships with companies, students become well prepared before hitting the job market. We are the mediator between students and companies.
No pain, no glory.
Active members of STAR assume the kinds of responsibilities you usually won't have again in the first few years of your career. This gives you unique opportunities to grow. Making mistakes and coping with disappointment is part of this learning experience. It will make you a more competent player in the job market.
Standing on the shoulders of giants.
Every year we try to make our events better than the year before. We work at this by allowing active members to share experiences with the people who came before them. These incremental improvements not only lead to better events, but also allow our active members to take the responsibility to innovate. We do not, however, provide a complete guidebook on running a project; members have the chance to learn that themselves.
Equal opportunities for everyone.
At STAR we judge people by their demonstrated talent and ability. We design our recruitment processes with the idea of equal treatment and respect. To ensure we measure people comprehensively, we interview all applicants carefully and do not judge them only on the basis of résumés.
Business students cross all borders.
We welcome RSM students from around the world in the ranks of our organisation. By using English as the official language in all our communications and making sure as many events as possible are accessible for English-speaking students, we hope to provide a home for our international and Dutch students.
Our doors and minds are always open.
The STAR offices do not have regular working hours; the Board is there for students from 9 a.m. till late in the evening, not only to run the place and guide active members, but also to listen to your ideas and suggestions. We welcome innovation and strive to improve our association.
True to our roots, but focusing on tomorrow.
Our history is important to us. Over the course of more than 30 years we have enriched the lives of 2000+ active members and thousands of other students by engaging them in our activities. We are proud of our legacy and traditions, but we also like to push the envelope and keep improving. We do this by keeping in touch with our alumni and always looking out for the needs of the students of tomorrow.
You are our business card.
We are a large organisation and value a professional relationship with all our stakeholders. This does not mean that active members must wear a suit 24/7, but it implies professional and upright manners from you.
