As commissioner of marketing of the STAR Management Week you will be the communicator of the project. You will build towards a professional marketing campaign to communicate the project and its activities to all participants, both students and companies, in the most attractive way. The function of marketing is of critical importance, as it requires an analytical and creative mind to define the market, set the project apart from competition, to involve participants and to pursue innovative ways of communicating.

Will YOU be the next to:

-          Create a successful marketing strategy
-          Communicate with every participating company about marketing
-          Select the design agency and work out the marketing campaign with 
       them
-          Manage the marketing budget and negotiate the marketing contract
-          Execute your marketing plan
-          Involve national and international press

STAR Management Week 2011


Being responsible for marketing during the STAR Management Week, is a challenging but fun task. You will start out with a certain strategy about your marketing during the week, which will gradually come to life during the project. The first part is when choosing the design agency; the second part is when all the materials - such as the programme booklet – arrive.

When being responsible for marketing, your most important task is to keep a clear overview of everything that needs to be done, and the according deadlines. You need to know what product needs to be delivered, at what time, and what is needed for it to complete it. You will have to keep close communication with your committee members to make sure they know what you need of them and help them where needed to create the best product possible, together.

This also counts for your design agency in the end; they will deliver your products. They will work out the practical aspect, designing the products and putting all information into place. In the beginning, you can start brainstorming with them and your team about the marketing strategy: which products do you want to use this year, what campaign you want to start. Later, you will be more focused on the products that need to be delivered.

The first part is also where communication to the facility bureau comes in. At the Erasmus University are several rules about what you can and can’t do with marketing. Creating a good relationship with this bureau is therefore of importance, to make sure all your great ideas can come to live.

To end with, I want to tell you how much I liked my function, with all the challenges and experience it gave me. As also stated in the recruitment brochure; the best thing about a marketing function is seeing your creations come to live, and feeling a lot of joy when all the products arrive.
