As one of the two Commissioners of Speakers you will offer students the opportunity to get inspired by organizing speaker events for the STAR Management Week. Many world leaders in business and politics have been brought to Erasmus University by the STAR Management Week in the past, to tell inspirational stories about their life. The function of speakers is one that asks for curiosity to find that interesting story someone has to tell, creativity to think of concepts and themes, and the organizational skills to organize a speaker event like the successful Entrepreneurial Seminar.

Will YOU be the next to:

- Develop a platform at which students can get inspired
- Come up with new concepts and themes for speaker events
- Network your way up, connect the dots and attract that speaker
- Meet with these important speakers to discuss the event
- Manage these contacts throughout and even after the project

STAR Management Week 2011

As Commissioner of Speakers, I was responsible for the speakers events during the STAR Management Week 2011. This year, we had the Opening Conference, the Entrepreneurial Seminar and the Sports Seminar. 

When I first began, I didn’t know at all where to start. But you will get a lot of help and support from the board and your predecessors. In the first part of being a Commissioner of Speakers, the focus is on approaching potential speakers. You will have to call a lot of people and write a lot of letters. And when you work hard you will see: after a few months the first speakers are accepting your invitation! You will have appointments with all of the speakers participating in one of the events. This is a great experience, because you will meet a lot of exciting people. At first it felt like there was a great distance between me and those speakers. When actually there, I realized that these well respected people, are just like you and me. I really enjoyed having conversations with them. 

The STAR Management Week committee is amazing: hard work, a lot of ups and downs, a lot of fun, which makes it a great learning experience!
